Once used traditionally in log homes, cabins, and lodges, antler chandeliers and accessories have recently emerged in New York, a new trend that is spreading rapidly throughout the nation. With something as simple yet as magnificent as an antler chandelier (or other functional and decorative accessory, such as antler lighting, candelabras, scones, etc.), you can easily add an element of natural beauty to any room.
But when you are considering the type of deer antler chandelier you would like, it is critical to understand the difference between a real antler chandelier and a reproduced antler chandelier.
Real antlers, which we use to create the authentic real deer antler chandeliers and other similar products, come from white-tail deer, mule deer, fallow deer, elk, and moose. Their antlers are shed annually, and then (and only then) collected.
It is a time-consuming but rewarding process. We collaborate with local farmers who spread feed for the deer and then collect the antlers left behind; we then take the antlers to the manufacturing facility to be inspected, eclectically sorted so that only the best-quality are chosen, and then they are sorted according to size and color. The antlers are meticulously drilled so that all wiring is internal and hidden. Each fixture is hand-assembled and bolts are counter sunk, resulting in a clean flawless appearance. Antlers are an environmentally-friendly renewable source.
Reproduced antlers, which we use to create reproduced antler chandeliers and other such products, have a different origin. These are made from high-quality resin and are personally hand-stained to create their very authentic appearance. We craft them from durable medium density polyethylene; years of extensive research and high-quality material have resulted in a lightweight yet extremely tough product
When choosing your antler chandelier, there are many factors to consider, including practicality, price, and of course personal preference. Real deer antlers are indubitably as authentic as it gets; antlers and horns have long been prized throughout centuries and nations as the crowning jewels of the animals they grace, and an antler is a tangible emblem of the real-life beauty, symmetry, and majesty in nature.
The two main advantages of reproduced antler chandeliers over real antler chandeliers are the price (often half, or less) and the weight (again, often half or less). If you have a real antler chandelier and a reproduced antler chandelier side-by-side, most people can tell the difference, but most people—unless they are hunters or otherwise experts—will have a very difficult time telling them apart once they are hung in place.
Antlers, be they real or reproduced, are not only a metaphor of natural beauty, they become a craftsman's masterpiece, and a crowning jewel of your own.
